In light of that idiot in Florida, Terry Jones, here’s a quote from one of America’s presidents:
“Don’t join the book burners… Don’t be afraid to go in your library and read every book.”
— Dwight D. Eisenhower
Assuming your library hasn’t closed down for lack of money or whatever. Closing for upgrades should be something patrons applaud, mind you, but I know when we got our new system rolling, we had so many damned bugs that we had patrons freaking out over everything. Our head guy had some signs made that say “Change in Progress” which means more than one thing if you look at it. Either change is progressing in a forward manner like it ought to be, or there’s been a change in progress which may require calling one’s priest to deal with. But anyway.
Update on the Dove Pastor thing: it’s reported now that the police are demanding Jones pay for the hassle they had in providing him with security for his little show that he wound up canceling:
Gainesville police spokeswoman Cpl. Tscharna Senn told CNN that the threat led to a large police operation.
“We have 286 sworn officers and almost everyone was working either at the Dove Center or at other soft targets,” she said. “Unless you were sick or injured you were working” the day the burning was to take place.
The Gainesville Police Department said it spent more than $100,000 while the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office spent an estimated $80,000 during the weekend of the planned demonstration.
Mr Jones said that the church was “not aware that we would be billed for security” while the police have been accused of overreacting.
“It’s easy to say we over prepared but if something horrible had happened we would have been criticised for being unprepared,” Cpl Senn told CNN.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I’m sure Jones is canvassing for more funds already in order to cover what he owes. His little cult can’t foot that kind of bill on their own, I’m sure.
