A dream not yet reality

Martin Luther King Jr. might have had a dream, but for some Barack Obama’s success on November 4thth may as well be a nightmare they can’t wake up from.

Change in whatever form does not come easy, and a black president is “the most profound change in the field of race this country has experienced since the Civil War,” said William Ferris, senior associate director of the Center for the Study of the American South at the University of North Carolina. “It’s shaking the foundations on which the country has existed for centuries.”

The article lists a whole pile of shitty and stupid things people have done in the past couple weeks that prove they’re unwilling to deal with Obama as the future President, or as a man. No, he’s got to be seen as a Black Man, and the setter of a dangerous precedent. And, since they can’t touch the man, they’re taking their anger and fear and resentment out on anyone that may have voted for him, especially those who share the same skin tone.

I think what’s most chilling is this bit:

At Standish, Maine, a sign inside the Oak Hill General Store read: “Osama Obama Shotgun Pool.” Customers could sign up to bet $1 on a date when Obama would be killed. “Stabbing, shooting, roadside bombs, they all count,” the sign said. At the bottom of the marker board was written “Let’s hope someone wins.”

But the other examples of cruelty and ignorance are just as bad.

Are people ever going to get beyond racism? I’d really like to see that day.
