The Sydney Morning Herald has a bizarre list of top books on their website.
I think this is seriously flawed. The Herald doesn’t even bother reporting how the list was generated. Is it rated by overall sales? E-mailed submissions? Picked out of a top hat? What?
Seven books apparently tie at the #1 spot (entire Harry Potter series) and the 2nd is Twilight, which is a good book, I heartily agree, but does it really beat out Pride and Prejudice, which ranks at third?
Craziness. Just craziness. Who was doing the selecting? This one looks like it was assembled by housewives that love Oprah’s Book Club, and people willing to read novels geared for teens, if not the teens themselves.
I’ll bet middle aged men would have selected entirely different books for their top 100.
