How tall is Penn Jillette? He’s all awesome.
Believing there’s no God means I can’t really be forgiven except by kindness and faulty memories. That’s good; it makes me want to be more thoughtful. I have to try to treat people right the first time around.
I totally agree with this sentiment. I would rather live my life knowing I’ve done all right by people than deal with folks bearing grudges. Some of that I can’t help, I suppose. No doubt my dislike of some beliefs might bother people enough to condemn me to a place I don’t believe exists.
Reminder to those people: hell can only be a useful fear tactic for people who believe there’s a heaven they might miss out on. For anyone else, it’s a very empty threat.
H/T to Kat for having the quote on her sidebar.

“hell can only be a useful fear tactic for people who believe”
Good one Minion. It always cracks me up when someone says: you’ll go to hell for that (not believing in God). They really think we will go to hell. I asked my uncle about it once. He said that I was in for one big surprise.

I like to say the the world has shrunk to the size of a modem. Of course, that was back when everyone still used modems. Heh.
I’d say the internet makes it easier for like to seek like. It’s no longer necessary to put up with people you can’t stand. Unless you want to.
Sad in a way. My folks go out to a senior’s club every Saturday night to play cards with whoever turns up. Some they like, some they don’t like, but they all still play together. I think with the internet, we’re at a risk of forgetting how to do that. I don’t mean play cards with live people, I mean we’re losing the need to rub elbows with the people we don’t agree with even when there’s no need to be disagreeing with them. Does that make sense? I can’t tell. I woke way too early this morning.
I don’t think it’s good to restrict ourselves to only the viewpoints we like or tolerate, you know? It’s one thing to pick on a view we don’t like, but I still think some aim should be made to get along with people, regardless of what we think of their thought processes.
Like attracts like and birds of a feather flock together, but that doesn’t mean we have to isolate ourselves, insulate ourselves, whatever.
I’m rambling. I must be tired…

well, i agree with you here.
where i come from, i am surrounded by people i don’t agree with. mostly i just keep my mouth shut, listen and smile or ignore.
i never take on anyones religious beliefs, until they start applying them to me.
fortunately we do have the internet, and i do seek out people that agree with my points of view. mainly because there are so few i know personally.
