I have one question about these “wholesome” toys

Why are their outfits see-through?

Faithnews has an article about the Angel Heaven toys and why people think they have to exist as an item to purchase.

Angel Heaven(TM) World, a new St. Louis-based online company, has unveiled their new interactive Web site and full line of original, wholesome dolls with collectable wings, stuffed animals, music and other Angel themed merchandise. AngelHeaven(TM)World.com is a secure, values-based Web site that allows children access to games and activities and gives parents and loved ones a “talking” shopping experience they won’t find anywhere else.

The company is the vision of nationally known artist, author and designer Sharon M (Geisen) Hayes. In 2005, she was inspired to develop Angel Heaven(TM) by her own childhood dreams and her pure love of life and people.

“I created Angel Heaven to encourage feelings of security and joy for today’s children and to recapture a sense of innocence in this forever changing world,” says Sharon Hayes, CEO and Founder of Angel Heaven (TM) World. “Our values-oriented Web site provides kids with an experience that celebrates creativity, learning and doing positive things for others.”

Any toy can do that. Wasn’t that the aim of the Cabbage Patch Kids? They were all about sharing and caring. So were the Care Bears. So’s Strawberry Shortcake and her scented ilk. Lego encourages creativity, as does a set of crayons or paint.

Angel Heaven(TM) World stands apart with its entertaining and wholesome online neighborhood where kids (ages 3-11) can help their angels earn wings, fly & chat in a safe and secure Angel Heaven (TM) park, play online games with the many characters of Angel Heaven(TM) and Shop for guardian angel dolls and other Angel Heaven(TM) creations. The site can also help kids learn basic skills like memory building, reading and creative thinking in a safe, secure web environment. In 2009, AngelHeaven(TM)World.com will be adding Angel Heaven cartoons, books and more!

Sounds totally boring to me, but I’m not a girl aged 3-11 with parents who think I need this kind of thing in order to train my brain for remembering bible facts and learning to read bible verses and thinking creatively about bible related topics. Safe, secure, and snoreworthy.

Sounds more like they’re trying to create an alternative money-maker to Webkinz or something. My co-worker’s grandkids have piles of those things and they’re Christians, so they can’t be all bad.

The Webkinz site promises parents a similar learning environment of logical problem solving, money management training, caring for their virtual pets, and getting along with others. Creativity and responsibility are also in their buzzword arsenal. They’ve got a bowling panda, for goodness’ sake. Who wouldn’t want that!? I want that! Hell, just looking at their catalogue is an overdose of cute. Yikes.

They will be encouraged to think positively, take positive actions and be positive. Our interactive games and downloadable coloring pages will assist children in the basic skill sets of hand/eye coordination, reading, creative thinking, and singing.

The owner of the angel site is really pushing them positives, isn’t she? That’s all stuff kids can learn how to do without getting a computer connection involved, let alone a Christian influenced one. I think it’s all about making some money, not making kids smart. That goes for Webkinz, too, and every other edutainment alternative available these days. They all make promises about how they can help kids be better kids, more happy, more creative, more logical, more musically inclined, more interactive.

Do they actually deliver what they promise?

You may want to actually visit the site before commenting on what it is all about. Angel Heaven™ World does not teach children how to read the bible, or even refer to verses in the bible.

Visit our news section, it may be insightful. Also check out the online books this April so you can read the full story of Angel Heaven™ World and how it was discovered.

Safe and Wholesome refers to the fly and chat park as well as the construction of the toys. The angels do have clothes that are not see through and once you read the story your question will be answered.

Thinking positive is a good thing, you should try it sometime!

    God Bless You.

Angels are bible related topics, though. Wouldn’t parents give these toys to their kids and encourage their kids to play these games with the intention of talking about angels in a biblical sense eventually? Kids might ask if angels really exist and what will parents say? And parents may have already told their kids angels are real because the bible says so.

There are safe and wholesome games all over the internet that don’t include religious iconography. My favourite little site is called Orisinal and Ferry Halim’s games are so adorable and fun and charming that even I, a 35 year old, can spend hours playing them.

I’m not against thinking positive. I’m against pushing a religious agenda onto little kids. I’ll agree all kids need to learn to share and help and be nice, though. Games that encourage appropriate behaviour are worth creating and I’d like to see more of them.
